Hope Restored: Community Unites to Help Foster Family Overcome Hurricane Devastation

In the wake of Hurricane Milton’s destruction, one Florida family’s dream of opening their home to children in crisis was nearly shattered. As they stood on the verge of becoming licensed foster parents, the storm tore through their house, leaving their roof damaged and their future uncertain. Without urgent repairs, their foster care approval was at risk—putting the hope of a safe, loving home for a child in jeopardy.

But when tragedy threatened, faith and community answered. Jenny Pamplona, a devoted foster parent and advocate, heard about the family’s desperate need and immediately turned to her husband, Andre, a local roofing contractor. Moved by their story, Andre didn’t hesitate—within hours, he assessed the damage and put forth a plan to restore their home. The cost: $1,250. The urgency: undeniable.

A Door of Hope, the nonprofit walking alongside this family on their fostering journey, recognized the critical need and sprang into action. Thanks to a $50,000 hurricane relief grant from Governor Ron DeSantis’ Office provided to A Door of Hope, funding was approved within days. The cost of the roof repair was completely covered. What seemed impossible suddenly became reality.

Andre and his team wasted no time. As the sounds of hammers and saws filled the air, hope was being rebuilt—one shingle at a time. By the following week, the family’s home was restored, their foster care packet was submitted, and their journey to welcoming a child in need could continue. This beautiful family now has been approved and fully licensed to become a foster home for children in crisis, thanks to the help of their community.

“This is what community looks like,” said Godly Daniel, Executive Director of A Door of Hope. “When people come together with generosity and faith, lives are changed. Because of Andre and Jenny Pamplona, the Governor’s Office, and everyone who played a part in this, a child will soon have a safe and loving home.”

Andre Pamplona LLC, the family’s business, proved that when local businesses invest in their communities, they don’t just repair homes—they restore hope.

As Florida continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Milton, this story is a testament to the power of compassion, faith, and action. When neighbors step up for one another, miracles happen.

A Door of Hope has been a beacon of light for children in crisis, licensing over 500 foster homes across 11 counties in Florida.
